Healing & Kindness;

If you are familiar with the band Heilung, then you can guess what this post may be getting at. If you have not heard of them, think of Scandinavian tribal music (it's the best term I can use to describe them) And I seriously recommend giving them a listen! I discovered this band this past summer, and their music just moved me, I felt a deep connection with every drum beat and lyric being sang through my speakers.

In the last weekend of January, I was blessed to see them perform live in Montreal.

My takeaway from the show? “It wasn't your average band concert.”

This particular moment in the show was mesmerizing

This was certainly a ceremony where they involved you in their ritual, playing historical music of medieval Europe. I was engulfed with euphoria through the entire performance, it certainly made me tear up and just move anyway I could along with the drum beats.

The band name “Heilung” in German translates to “Healing." I legit, felt like I was healed after they left the stage, no “ENCORE” was yelled out, as we all understood, the ceremony was over as the one band member came to bless us with sage as a closing ritual just like any ceremony in pagan and Wicca culture.

I can go on and on about how this show made me feel, I've been going to concerts since I was 16, and let me tell you, Heilung's performance is definitely in the top 3.

If you have a moment, please go give them a listen, I recommend the songs;

“Traust”

or

“In Maidjan.”

Now, with healing, comes reflection. For the past couple of years I've been recommended to be more selfish or more of a bitch (like legit, be more mean), but kindness and empathy overrides anything else in my personality.

So, this little reflection is in relation to seeing Heilung perform. After the show, I had left with my fiance and some friends to go to a karaoke bar behind the venue. We got some beers and started just chilling, taking turns submitting songs and singing.

After awhile there was a guy outside the tour bus across the street holding moose antlers. My first thought was, “WHAT! DID HE SCORE THOSE FROM THE STAGE!” So my girlfriend who was with me suggested we go over and try to score some props from the show.

As we approached the man with the horns, I asked him if what I assumed was the case. He replied that he flew from New Found Land to see Heilung, and the horns were from a moose he killed himself and wanted the band to sign them. (Pretty awesome memorabilia to bring to a show)

He then goes to tell me that he had been waiting outside in the rain/snow for 2 hours and ran out of smokes awhile ago. We chatted a bit more and then my girlfriend and I went back to the bar.

As I sat there, I was sitting by the window of the bar so I could still see the Newfie dude with the moose antlers. My fiance suggests after awhile to go out for a smoke, I then decided that as a smoker, it sucks to be out of smokes in the cold like that. So I grab 2 of mine and go to bring them to the Newfie.

I go to approach him, and had noticed a few more people than before. I look to my side and notice the 2 lead singers of Heilung here standing there, greeting the few people who waited so long to see them. I give the Newfie the smokes to which he highly appreciated. I then became full fan girl and got to meet, shake hands and exchange thank yous to these amazing artists.

After taking photos, my face was sore from smiling, I wished the band members safe travels and went back to the bar where I was coming down from being starstruck.

So back to what I was initially talking about in relation to the title of this post. I have always believed in, not karma per se, but that what you give to the world, and the world will provide to you.

To be more of a bitch, or selfish, is just not in me. I can be more assertive sure, but with a polite tone than to hold a chip on my shoulder. Being considerate of that Newfie to bring him smokes, was in perfect timing to meet Heilung. You just never know what actions of kindness and selflessness can lead you, sure it doesn't always pay the bills, but it fills your heart and mind to feel like at least your providing positive energy into this world.

As I like to say,

“The world can be an ugly place, I'd rather not add to it.”

That night I healed, stayed true to myself, and had one of the most epic nights ever in Montreal with loved ones close to me.
